Moving the world’s oldest profession off the streets.
A lone girl dressed in fishnet stockings, a small black skirt that barley fits, and a red tube top stands on the corner of Hinder and Maple Street. She's stood here many times before, and is no longer afraid of being there alone. She knows what she must do when a car pulls up, she must proceed towards the car and chat with the men in the vehicle. She doesn't know who they are, or where they're from, all she knows is that she will soon be theirs. After talking to the men in the car for a while and negotiating prices, she proceeds to get into the car. They drive off to an unknown location, and proceed to beat her violently; choking and hitting her with bats. She cannot do anything about it, she is alone and defenseless. She uses all of her might to fight back, but she just can't.
Prostitution is something very serious in America.
There are many women on the streets right now that this could possibly happen to. Every day prostitutes are beaten and raped. They don't even have to be grown women, girls or boys of any age are being prostituted all over the united states. It all begins with the demand for people to buy sex, there are many people willing to pay for those kinds of activities. Generally people begin their lives with prostitution because of poverty. They have no money and see it as an easy fast way to make money. Generally prostitutes are addicted to drugs, and live very unhealthy lifestyles; causing it to be a dangerous way to live.
There are many things that make being a prostitute dangerous.
Every woman who has been in the Dignity House jail program stated she has been raped, robbed, kicked and beaten with fists, knives, guns, coat hangers, baseball bats, and boards - either by a trick or her pimp. Each girl knew someone who had been murdered while working in prostitution (VERONICA'S Voice). So, anything can happen to these women or men. Since it's not government regulated, there is no set way of how anything in this business works. Girls involved in prostitution are increasingly getting younger, dropping from 14, to 13 and 12 years of age. Child prostitution in the United States began to escalate in the late 1980's after new laws made it more difficult for officials to detain runaway children (Verionica's). The health of the women is something that is not inspected either, and they could be passing off any type of disease to any of their clients and not know it. The average prostitute is involved in about 300 unprotected sex acts each year, and rates of sexually transmitted disease like HIV are very high among sex workers (Powers). If this were to be regulated, prostitutes would be required to wear protection. Causing the rate of STD's passed around to decrease. Too much money is spent in America to prevent something that is bound to happen either way. In the U.S. 80,000 prostitution-related arrests are made each year, costing tax payers around $200 million (Powers).

Making it safer for everyone.
Overall there is no way to possibly prevent this from happening in society. Thus the best way to fix the problem, it to watch it. If prostitution was to becom legal it would then be safer, in terms of std's, and also makes safer for the woman physically. It would be off the streets in a designated place of business such as a brothel. Each woman would have their own room where they take the clients. Every woman will be STD and STI free, and be required to go to checkups atleast twice a month. If they happen to notice something different going on, they will be required to see the gynecologist which is stationed in the brothel. If the woman has something that can be cured, she will not be able to take anymore clients until she is well. This will have them women want to prevent this from happening, so they can make more money. Thus they will be more willing to use protection. Thus the rate of STD's and STI's being passed around by prostitutes will decrease. If this were to happen it would create jobs, lessen crime, and really help our economy out. Instead of money going to criminals and out of the country it would be going to our government.
